Is the date on the carton past its expiration date? Don’t throw it away just yet! Look closely at this image: if the egg floats at the top of the glass, is it still edible or is it dangerous to your health?

🥚Is your egg spoiled or still good? The 3-Second Magic Test to Never Take Risks Again!

It’s a situation we all know: you want to make a cake or an omelet, you take the eggs out of the fridge, and then… you notice that the expiration date on the box has passed by a day or two.

Faced with the risk of food poisoning (such as salmonella), panic sets in. Should they be thrown away as a precaution, or can they still be cooked safely?

Fortunately, there’s a scientific and magical trick that takes exactly 3 seconds. Today,  Home Chef Secret explains how to check the freshness of an egg with a simple glass of water.

💧The water glass trick: How does it work?

No need to open the egg and risk the smell. Fill a large glass or bowl with cold water , gently place your egg in it, and observe its position:

  • Case 1: The egg sinks and stays flat at the bottom.

    • The verdict:  It’s  ultra-fresh  ! You can consume it without any problem, even for raw recipes (like homemade mayonnaise or tiramisu).

  • Case 2: The egg sinks to the bottom but stands upright (vertically).

    • The verdict:  It’s no longer at its freshest, but it’s  still perfectly edible . However, reserve it for cooked preparations (hard-boiled eggs, cakes, quiches).

  • Case 3: The egg floats on the surface of the water.

    • The verdict:  ⚠️ DANGER!  The egg is spoiled. Do not eat it and throw it away immediately.
